Proper cleaning keeps your breast pump safe, hygienic, and in good working order. Follow these steps after each pumping session.

After Each Use

  1. Disassemble parts that come in contact with breast milk (bottles, flanges, valves, membranes, collection cups).
  2. Rinse with cool water to remove milk residue.
  3. Wash in warm soapy water using a clean brush designated only for pump parts.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with hot water.
  5. Air-dry completely on a clean towel or drying rackโ€”avoid using cloth towels that could transfer germs.

Daily Sterilization

  • Boil pump parts (if safe for your model) for 5โ€“10 minutes.
  • Or use microwave steam sterilizer bags or a top-rack dishwasher cycle (if allowed by your pumpโ€™s instructions).
  • Always let parts dry completely before storing or reassembling.

Important Reminders

  • Clean and disinfect any surface the pump motor rests on regularly.
  • Do not wash tubing or get tubing wet. If your tubing gets wet, replace immediately. There is no safe way to clean moisture inside tubing, so it is important to check for moisture buildup inside.
  • Always check your pumpโ€™s user manual for specific cleaning instructions and compatibility with heat sterilization.
